What Is A Giving Party? - Raleigh Giving Party

Giving: verb to share what we have with others through our time, expertise and/or financial resources.

Party: noun a social gathering of invited guests, typically involving eating, drinking, and having fun.

Raleigh Giving Party: Raleigh’s cozy, feel-good event of the season that ushers in the holidays. Girlfriends gather to mix, mingle, drink and donate to support local charitable organizations. Part girl power, part holiday giddiness, all altruistic, we Give Until it Feels Good!

You’ve probably been invited to at least one sip and shop party in your life. You know, drink wine, look at candles/jewelry/clothing/cookware/marital aids, and purchase stuff that you may or may not want or need. Who doesn’t love a good candle/outfit/fry pan? Well, in 2007 some big-hearted gals in Chapel Hill keenly thought perhaps they could put an interesting twist on this shopping-party concept and do a little good locally at the same time. So they gathered up some fun, creative, do-gooder girlfriends and launched the Giving Party™ that November.

Since then, girlfriends have gathered in cities including Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Cary, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Durham, Greenville, SC, London, England, Charleston, Mill Valley, Calif., and Vancouver, BC, to support local nonprofits at Giving Parties.

Now 15 years, 12 cities, 130+ nonprofits, 2800 guests and $500,000 later, we’re continuing the holiday do-good spirit in Raleigh with the 10th – and final – Raleigh Giving Party! Please consider revisiting some favorite RGP nonprofits from previous years and making a donation (see homepage).

We invite all of our girlfriends, serve wine and tasty food, and ask representatives from favorite local nonprofits to share the work their organizations do. Our guests can make a donation to any, all, or none, there’s no pressure and the giving is anonymous. The point is just to give and have fun doing it!

Over the years and across the nation and beyond, nonprofits have raised friends and funds at these Giving Parties. Most importantly, connections have been made, volunteers have joined causes, and we love raising a collective glass across the miles to celebrate how easy, fun and fulfilling it is to give.
